Board of Directors

Vicki Baker - President

Girlfriend Ministry came into my life in the Fall of 2014 when I attended my first Girlfriend Getaway. I was so shy, I barely uttered a word at the retreat. There’s something about girlfriends that boosts a girl’s confidence. Over the years, I’ve become more and more involved in the ministry by serving on the creative and mentor teams as well as creative team leader and ministry board secretary. Currently, I’m the president and look forward to leading the ministry as long as God leads.

I’m the proud wife of my wonderful husband, James and momma to my fur babies, Maladi and Remi. In 2017, I retired from my 30-plus year career as an elementary teacher, and I love having more time to devote to family, friends, walking, shopping and studying God’s Word. Through Girlfriend Ministry, I’ve learned how to study God’s Word for myself, and it has truly changed my life.

My life verses are: “I can do all things through him who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13 ESV) and “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” (Proverbs 19:21 NIV). Over the years, I’ve learned to embrace myself the way God made me and believe in the unique purpose He has for my life. I’m not afraid to stand out if it means I’m following God’s will for my life. God has proved to me that He keeps His promises to never leave me or forsake me and to give me the strength to overcome any challenges I face.

Debbie Brock - Vice President

Girlfriend Ministry came into my life just when I was looking to add some Christian friendships to my life. After attending my first Girlfriend Getaway and some other ministry events, I was invited to use my skills in accounting and money management by serving as co-treasurer for the ministry.

I’m a proud single mom to my young adult son. After more than 20 years of service, I retired as a Captain in the Air Force. Currently, I am the business manager and bookkeeper at Bewley’s Furniture. I love to stay fit by walking, hiking and other outdoor activities, and I enjoy reading and crafting. The godly friendships I’ve gained through my church and Girlfriend Ministry have enriched my life. Spending time with my girlfriends is one of my greatest pleasures.

The verse that guides my life and work is: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for man” (Colossians 3:23). Daily, I strive to live by 1 Thessalonians 3:16-18a, which says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances.”

Lynn Sayers - Secretary

I attended my first Girlfriend Ministry retreat in the fall of 2018 where I learned to dig in God's Word and made some faithful friends. I’m the resident tech expert for the ministry, and I serve as the secretary. I also help with cooking and serving food at the retreats and other special events.

I have a degree in graphic design and work for a local marketing/advertising firm. My two adult sons and grandson have my heart. In my free time, I love spending time outside gardening and fishing. My creative side comes out through sewing, knitting, crocheting, painting and drawing.

As a cancer survivor and overcomer of many difficult seasons, my faith holds me steady. A verse I cling to for comfort and strength is Isaiah 43:1: “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.’”

Claire McDaniel - Treasurer

I have heard about Girlfriend Ministry for many years from my sister, but I haven’t been a part of it until this past year.  I have attended Bible Studies with my sister and have helped her with different projects.  Recently, I accepted the position of Treasurer for the ministry.  This has allowed me the opportunity to learn more about the ministry and all that it entails.

My husband, Kenny, and I have been married for over 30 years.  We have been blessed with 2 beautiful daughters, Courtney and Kaci, and 2 beautiful granddaughters, Kinley and Mia.  We are a dog family and love our 2 dogs, Rusty and Max.  I’ve been a RN since 1994.  I started out working at LSU and am currently working at Willis Knighton South in the Oral Surgery clinic.  I am the clinic RN manager.

I enjoy spending time with my family and friends.  I love decorating our home for the different seasons and holidays.  I love to do different kinds of crafts.  I decorate  t-shirts, thermal cups, and various other items using my Cricut machine.  I love to shop especially at Hobby Lobby and Marshalls where I find some really good deals.

My favorite Bible Verse is Psalms 46:10.  Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!

Julie Cummings - Creative Director

Girlfriend Ministry has been an important part of my life for many years. My time with the ministry has taught me how to study the Bible and dig deep into its truth. I have grown as a Christian and as a friend thanks for Girlfriend Ministry. After serving on the creative team for several years, I am now the creative director. It’s a lot of fun to use my creativity to make our retreats look beautiful.

I’m a veteran teacher and a boutique owner. My husband and I have two wonderful young adult children and five fur babies. Family time is my favorite. I love scrapbooking and other paper crafts, and my idea of a fun day is picking around for treasures at craft shows and flea markets.

As I strive to be the best woman I can be with God’s strength, Proverbs 31:25 is my life verse: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come” (NIV).

Ammer Gayle Whatley - Worship Leader

Girlfriend Ministry has been an important part of my life for nearly 10 years.  I have attended retreats and various other activities throughout the year.  I was asked to help lead the worship at our retreats several years ago.  I was also asked to join the Creative Team and recently have joined the Board as Worship Leader.

My husband, Gary, and I have been married for 18 years.  We love spending time with our blended family made up of 5 children and 14 grandchildren.  After serving as RN for over 40 years, I retired.  I continue to keep my license updated so that I can serve as a surgical nurse on mission trips.  I am active in Bill Glass Behind the Walls Prison Ministry.  I served as local coordinator in the past and hope to continue doing so.  I love sharing Jesus with others and love any ministry that serves women.

Gary and I live on a farm which serves as a sanctuary for us as well as, our menagerie of animals.  We have peacocks, chickens, ducks, llamas, a horse, cows, dogs and cats.  I enjoy spending time with my family.  I also enjoy singing, whether it’s a solo, or with others.  I sing in my church choir and am on the Praise Team.

My favorite Bible Verse is Psalms 3:3.  “But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”  I am so grateful that the Lord protects me and brings me honor.  He gives me hope for each day.
